This book is a wonderful resource for both students and pilots with all ratings. Night flying, if not done consistently could be hazardous. Len Buckwalter's book provides a safe, efficient and educational text for the pilot that wants more. An easy read with lot's of great tips for night flying.5/5(4). You'll need a weather book or two in order to learn the "codes" used in aviation weather. These days, much of it is can be translated for the unfamiliar pilot, but trust me, you’ll use this one a lot, especially when you start flying cross-country flights and are left to interpret all of those pesky weather reports filled with code on your own. The last piece to night flying is logging your night landings, and carrying passengers with you. According to FAR (b), to carry passengers between 1 hour after sunset and ending 1 hour before sunrise, you need to make at least 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop in the preceding 90 days during the period beginning 1 hour after sunset.
